That letter is a great find. Thanks colonel snow for that and all the additional info. This is my kind of topic and I will listen to those songs on YouTube.

These songs are all C & W songs; it's a pity that some of these songs were rejected.

They are not really rejected songs but according to an interview with songwriter Roy C. Bennett in 2001 the next songs were chosen for a movie but recorded in a non movie recording session:

For the millionth and the last time for the movie Wild in the country; replaced by Forget me never in the movie and finally recorded in the studio (15 october 1961);

Just for old time sake for the movie Wild in the country; replaced by In my way in the movie and finally recorded in the studio (18 march 1962);

Western Union for the movie Girls girls girls; replaced by Return to sender in the movie and finally recorded in the studio (27 may 1961).

Turn me loose

Written by Pomus - Shuman

It's not confirmed but the song was offered in 1958/1959 to Elvis; because Elvis was in the army he wasn't able to record the song.
Fabian recorded his version in early 1959 (Chancellor C 1033); Mort Suman recorded the song late 1959 (Decca 11184)

Saved

According to the book "Elvis frame by frame" written by Bill Bram (page 351) the song was selected for the movie Easy come easy go; it was Elvis' choice. However the song was replaced by Sing you children. The song was recorded later on in the NBC TV Special.

Easy come easy go

According to the book "Elvis frame by frame" written by Bill Bram (page 350) the song written by Weisman - Wayne was selected for the movie Easy come easy go; it was the first choice (see scan). The second choice written by Giant - Baum - Kaye was rejected. Another version written by Gerald Nelson also did n't make it.

Wheel of fortune is an old song fromn the 50's; the title is probably changed with Wheel of love – unused demo written by Tepper Bennett for the movie Easy come easy go; replace by The love machine in the movie.

Not really rejected but according to the book A life in music (page 217) the next songs were selected for june 1966 recording sessions:
Faded love - Bob Wills;
Shake a hand - Faye Adams;
Saved - LaVern Baker;
After loving you - Della Reese;
A million miles from nowhere - Brook Benton (never recorded).
The fool - Sanford Clark;
The wonder of you - Ray Peterson.

All songs recorded later on.

Yoga is as yoga goes
The version written by Nelson-Burch was selected for the movie Easy come easy go. A version written by Tepper - Bennett was rejected. Another version was writtn by Darrell Glenn was also rejected.

It's nice to know that Hal B. Wallis got for the movie Easy come easy go 55 demo-acetates. Sometimes 3 acetates with the same title written by different songwriters. After a quick selection 43 demo's were cut off. The producer and/or Elvis made a decision which song was recorded.

Love on the rocks (scene 94 in discotheque according to script)

Selected for this scene:
Sweet thing (Tepper-Bennett);
Sand in the nick of time (Giant-Baum-Kaye).
Both songs were rejected in the pre-selection and replaced by Love on the rocks (Tepper-Bennett).
Finally this song was not recorded.
Afterwards selected for scene 94: Leave my woman alone but finally not recorded.
At the end scene 94 was cut from movie.

Rejected songs for Double trouble
According to the script the next songs were selected:

1) scene # 43-45 – London night club
Royal blues or Crazy head; however both songs were replaced by My baby likes to stay at home
but finally replaced by Baby if you’ll give all of your love (originally planned for the finale)

2) scene # 59 – sung to Annette Day in appartment
On London Bridge
replaced by Could I fall in love

3) scene # 96 – sung on deck of ship
It ain’t gonna do no good
replaced by Long legged girl

I've no information about the rejected (altenate) songs.

Tragedy
According to songwriter Gerald Nelson he wrote the song with Fred Burch for Elvis; however it was rejected. It was recorded in october 1958 by Thmas Wayne (Fernwoof 109) and produced by Scotty Moore. Through the years recorded by a lot of other artists.
